Come To The Dark Side, We Have Cookies

By Evan Sanders

Going to the dark places in your life is scary. It is hard. It's exhausting. But despite all of that it's one of the most fruitful adventures you can attempt.

Why you may ask?

Because spending time in the places where your pain is holding allows you to finally start the process of releasing that pain despite how uncomfortable it may be.

When you go into the shadows with compassion and love and actually attempt to understand the parts of you that could be experiencing discomfort you give yourself the chance to heal.

Wouldn't it feel incredible to live a life where you weren't constantly torn to pieces by what happened in the past and instead lived in the present moment? Wouldn't spending some time with your pains make that trip worthwhile?

But how do you do this?

The best way to get to the shadows is to dive safely into a meditation with the intention of going to that place. Breathe. Relax. Naturally your thoughts and emotions will start to swirl around you when you go to the places that hurt. Let them. Watch them flow. Continue to breathe away.

The major ability that you need to develop when you go to this place is getting near enough to these events and emotions so you can actually feel them though not getting so close that you become completely engulfed by them.

Honestly, it takes some significant practice and a dedication to work through the hard stuff. There's actually no telling you what will precisely happen when you continually do this exercise but the point is that major pains and concerns will release from you over a period of time. That in of itself is what makes the whole journey worthwhile.

The other benefit of this is to find your past unraveling itself from your life right now.

Take a dive into doing shadow work. See what happens? It might be one of the greatest journeys of your life. And hell, you could really start to heal.
